Lorraine attended Queens College at night and St. John’s University School of Law at night working her way through college and law school (partly as a taxi driver). She graduated from Queens College in 1972 and law school in 1980. Lorraine was a member of Law Review, graduated on the Dean’s List and won the New York/Connecticut Client Counseling Competition. When she took her bar exam she came in #2 in New York State. Upon graduation, Lorraine worked for 2 1/2 years in the corporate department of a Wall Street law firm and went into private practice in 1983 after her daughter Jacqueline was born. Ms. Coyle is the senior partner of the firm of Coyle & Associates, llp with offices in Riverdale, The Bronx and on Park Avenue in Manhattan.

Lorraine’s practice concentrates in divorce mediation and custody, trusts and estates and real estate. She has lectured on real estate transfers, Medicaid planning and tax savings through estate planning. She was a member of the Disciplinary Committee of the First Department, Appellate Division; she is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys; was a Director of the Elder Law Section of the New York State Bar Association and was president of the Bronx Women’s Bar Association.

Lorraine Coyle early political life began in Queens where she worked on the first campaign for Assembly of former New York State Comptroller Alan Hevesi; worked as Mr. Hevesi’s secretary when he went to the Assembly and then worked in the New York State Senate for Nicholas Ferraro as a legislative aide. Ms. Coyle met her husband – former Attorney General Oliver Koppell and now City Councilman- in Albany and they married in 1980.

Ms. Coyle has served on the Board of Directors of Riverdale Neighborhood House; serves pro bono counsel for many not-for-profit organizations and raised thousands of dollars on Avon’s 60 mile breast cancer walk. Ms. Coyle also is a Small Claims Court Arbitrator and served for years at three hospitals as a rape crisis counselor.

Lorraine Coyle is now training for the 2009 New York City Nautica triathlon.
