Attorney Profiles

OLIVER KOPPELL has over 30 years of practice experience and has represented clients ranging from individuals to some of America's largest corporations. He is a particularly successful appellate litigator having appeared in both State and Federal Courts of Appeals including the United States Supreme Court.

Mr. Koppell served as Attorney General of the State of New York where he administered a staff of over 400 lawyers practicing in 12 offices around the State of New York. During his tenure as Attorney General he negotiated the largest environmental settlement in the history of New York. The office initiated dozens of successful consumer protection lawsuits, investigated and prosecuted numerous fraudulent practices, defended the State in hundreds of lawsuits and successfully collected over $100,000,000.00 for the State of New York.

Prior to serving as Attorney General, Mr. Koppell was a member of the State Legislature where he was the author of over 280 State Laws, including the New York State Returnable Container Act (bottle bill), the Eminent Domain Procedure Law, the Adult Guardian Law, revisions of the Business Corporation Law regulating take-over disclosure and the Home Energy Fair Practices Act.

As a result of his long service as a State Legislator and State official, Oliver Koppell is familiar with State government and has, since his retirement from State service, represented a number of clients before State agencies and in matters in the courts pertaining to State actions.

As Chair of the New York State Assembly Judiciary Committee, he was responsible for all legislation affecting the operation of the New York State Court System. He has been in the active practice of law since 1966. He has been associated with a number of firms during his distinguished career including Cravath, Swaine & Moore and Meyer, Suozzi, English & Klein. He is a 1965 graduate of Harvard Law School.

JOHN F. DUANE served as an Assistant Attorney General of the State of New York and as a Member of the New York State Assembly. He is an Arbitrator for the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD). He was formerly associated with Philips, Nizer, Benjamin, Krim & Ballon and is a 1978 graduate of Columbia Law School.
